Where Can You Watch BJJ? A Beginner’s Guide

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is easier to watch than it used to be, but the amount of content can make it hard to know where to begin.

A good starting point is to watch clear, respectful competition coverage or a technical breakdown that explains what you are seeing. Try not to worry about understanding every grip and position. Your eye will develop as your own training develops.

Where can you watch BJJ?

Major BJJ events often publish information through their official websites and social channels. This is the best place to check dates, rules, athlete brackets and legitimate viewing options.

If you are interested in competing or spectating locally, our tournament schedule will point you toward official event information as it is confirmed.

Watch with a simple question in mind

Instead of trying to understand a whole match, pick one thing to look for:

  • How does a competitor create a grip?

  • How do they recover when they are put under pressure?

  • What happens before a guard pass?

  • How do they stay balanced when standing?

  • When do they slow the match down?

One clear question turns watching into useful learning.

Be careful with short clips

Short social clips can be entertaining, but they often remove the setup, the safety context and the mistakes that came before the highlight.

A technique that looks simple in a ten-second clip may take many attempts to understand. Treat clips as inspiration, not instruction.

The best way to understand BJJ is still to train

Watching can make you curious and help you recognise positions. It cannot replace the feeling of learning with a coach and a training partner.

If you are new, book a complimentary Introduction and let us help you start with the basics. You can then watch BJJ with a much clearer sense of what is happening on the mats.
